How Did Bisexuality Awareness Day Originate?

In den frühen 1990er Jahren begannen sich verschiedene bisexuelle Organisationen zu bilden, insbesondere in den Vereinigten Staaten. Der internationale Tag wurde jedoch 1999 auf der jährlichen Konferenz der International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA) ins Leben gerufen, dank der Initiative von drei bisexuellen Aktivisten: Wendy Curry, Michael Page und Gigi Raven Wilbur.

Das Datum wurde gewählt, weil am 23. September Freddie Mercury geboren wurde, ein Sänger, den Aktivisten bewunderten und der ihnen schien, die Bisexualität mit großer Kraft sichtbar zu machen. Außerdem war an diesem Tag Gigi Raven Wilburs Geburtstag.

Wilbur erklärte jedoch, dass es noch ein langer Weg ist, bis die bisexuelle Gemeinschaft anerkannt wird.

„Seit der Stonewall-Rebellion hat die schwule und lesbische Gemeinschaft an Stärke und Sichtbarkeit gewonnen. Die bisexuelle Gemeinschaft ist ebenfalls stärker geworden, aber in vielerlei Hinsicht bleiben wir unsichtbar. Ich wurde auch von der Gesellschaft dazu konditioniert, automatisch ein Paar, das Hand in Hand geht, als heterosexuell oder schwul zu kennzeichnen, je nachdem, welches Geschlecht ich bei jeder Person wahrnehme“, erklärte er gegenüber ILGA.

 

Mythen über die bisexuelle Gemeinschaft

Es ist nur eine Phase oder Stufe.

Es ist wahr, dass einige schwule oder lesbische Menschen eine Übergangsphase zu ihrer sexuellen Orientierung durchlaufen können, aber das ist nicht die Regel: Es geschieht nicht in allen Fällen. Bisexualität sollte nicht übergangen und nicht mit der sexuellen Neugier verwechselt werden, die jeder Mensch zu einem bestimmten Zeitpunkt in ihrem Leben haben kann.

 

Bisexuelle Menschen sind Lesben oder Schwule, die Angst haben, ihre Homosexualität zu akzeptieren.

Innerhalb der LGBTIQ-Community erleben viele bisexuelle Menschen Diskriminierungssituationen, da man denkt, sie seien verwirrt oder wollten ihre sexuelle Orientierung nicht offenbaren. Sie können jedoch sowohl zu ihrem eigenen Geschlecht als auch zu anderen hingezogen fühlen, und dies wird nicht immer im gleichen Verhältnis für jede Person sein, da in einigen Fällen die Anziehung im Laufe der Zeit schwankt.

 

Die bisexuelle Person hört auf, bisexuell zu sein, wenn sie eine Beziehung mit einer Person des anderen Geschlechts hat.

Dieses biphobe Stereotyp basiert auf der Vorstellung, dass Bisexualität eine Phase des Experimentierens ist, bevor man zur Heterosexualität zurückkehrt. Es ist jedoch möglich, eine Beziehung zum anderen Geschlecht zu führen und dabei jeweils eine andere sexuelle Orientierung zu haben.

Es gibt Zeiten, in denen Menschen entscheiden, über ihre Bisexualität in einer heterosexuellen Beziehung still zu bleiben, aus Angst vor Diskriminierung oder Ablehnung, die sie möglicherweise erfahren, wenn ihre Partner oder ihre Familie von ihrer sexuellen Orientierung erfahren.

 

 

Warum verdient Bisexualität Respekt?

Bisexualität ist eine sexuelle Orientierung, die genauso gültig ist wie die anderen. Es ist keine Phase oder ein Zeichen von Verwirrung, und jeder lebt sie auf seine eigene Weise. Es ist wichtig, dass diese Stereotypen abgebaut werden, damit ihre Rechte anerkannt werden und mehr Menschen ermutigt werden, sich ohne Angst auszudrücken.
